WELCOME FROM THE CO-FOUNDERS

Humanities Undergraduate Quarterly started off as the UK’s first academic journal for humanities and social sciences students. Since our recent expansion to accept any submissions in English, we are proud to be the world's first international journal for humanities and social science undergrads.

Our aim is to create an academic platform with greater accessibility.

Collaboration is at the heart of our publication. Our journals are written and peer-assessed by undergrad and masters students. To ensure fairness in our editing process, the names of the author and their university are removed when the articles are sent to the editors for review. These details will be reinstated once the article is published. We are committed to diversity in both our editing team and our outreach to potential authors. Diversity is crucial to us from the word ‘go’, it is in the foundations of our journal and setup - not an afterthought.

We feel education should be an equaliser. It currently is not. We feel that we don’t get the most of people’s ideas with the current hierarchy of further education, and in academia more widely. We want a space wherein students will be celebrated and listened to. What you know, rather than who you know.

On this note, we have chosen to create both a journal and a blog section to Humanities Undergraduate Quarterly. Not everyone works best by writing essays. The humanities cannot be captured solely in essay form. Art, poetry, film, and other mediums have been, and are, central to what makes the humanities and how we understand ourselves as a society. What else are the humanities about if not how we view ourselves as humans? So, if you wish to create something in non-written form, such as a video presentation, a piece of art or anything else, please do submit it to the usual email and we would love to include in our blog.

The first editions of our journal can be found under the 'journal' page.
